Reviewed: February 2015.I wasn't really sure what to think going into Beautiful Redemption, I was intrigued by Thomas in Beautiful Oblivion and I adored Trenton, I even understood where Cami was coming from, I found it hard to really blame her, I wanted to but the connection between her and Trent was so raw, so tangible that I almost felt like Thomas was the bad guy in this scenario but diving into Beautiful Redemption opened my eyes so very much.
BR falls in the aftermath of Cami and Thomas's break up, after the car accident and when Trent and Cami are now finding their happily ever after.
Thomas is a workaholic no doubt, but he's also a man that has lost the one woman he was trying to balance everything for, years of keeping secrets from his family has left him isolated and when he meets Liis one night in his local bar, he allows himself a night to start moving on. What he couldn't have possibly imagined was that the woman he went home with could be the same agent he's just reassigned specifically for his department in the FBI.
Thomas isn't the only one dealing with a past he'd rather it not relive, Liis is looking for a new start away from her ex fiancé, a new position miles from home, free of complications. Sleeping with her new boss the night before she starts her new assignment is the definition of complicated, but the promise of one night to forget about everything that's been weighing on her mind is too much to pass up.
Delving into a new job, with the renowned Thomas Maddox has trouble written all over it. As these two navigate the fall out from that bad decision they start to realise that they may be more suited than either are prepared for.
I loved that these two NEEDED each other, that their connection was indisputable, but even with their fierce sexual attraction there were still so many issues to overcome. Thomas hadn't only loved Cami, he'd been in love with her, letting her go to fall into the waiting arms of his younger brother, and having to watch as the future he had planned for himself play out for someone else was gut wrenching. I loved that Maguire didn't sugarcoat it, I loved that she asked the question is it possible to love more than one person? Is it even possible to truly get over your first love?
There is so much more going on with this story of two FBI agents navigating their own personal mind field, double agents and trying to recruit Thomas's younger brother Travis all took a toll, the grey area between getting what you want and doing what you need to do made this such an enjoyable read.
I had always wondered how Travis came to be an FBI agent, and I loved this look back to what came to be. I devoured this book in a matter of hours, I couldn't put it down. I loved Liis's strength and tenacity, I loved that for the first time in maybe ever Thomas found his equal in every way that mattered. I adored that their path to one another wasn't easy. I adored that Maguire focused on real issues. Most adults venturing into new relationships seldom come without baggage, and I loved that this wasn't a story about a badboy finding a girl who would make him want to be better, because Thomas despite his misconceived notions of deserving what he's got, is inherently a good guy. He's always put the needs of others ahead of his own. His strength and selflessness and Liis's tenacity is what made me fall in love with this couple and their story.
