Flithy Dirty Laundry (Filthy Dirty Laundry #1) by Kailin Gow - ARC Review

Blurb:

Sidney Stone, a recent college graduate in journalism has freelanced at the hot tabloid online magazine FILTHY DIRTY LAUNDRY since it began, and has just been encouraged to apply for the editor's position. Just when she thought she was going to get the job, FILTHY DIRTY LAUNDRY was sold and her dream job of being the editor vanquished, only to find that FILTHY DIRTY LAUNDRY was sold to the gorgeous award-winning journalist Philip LaFleur, who happens to be the brother of her worst enemy, Kendall, who tortured and bullied her throughout high school. Can it get any worse?

As she watch her dreams vanish, she also gets into an accident with the cocky and much-too-sexy Philip, who seems to push every button in her, as he push beyond boundaries to get her to become a journalist she was meant to be. With Kendall also joining the magazine, along with Sidney's best friend Johnson, FILTHY DIRTY LAUNDRY has become a hotbed of twists, turns, and passions in this new steamy series where exposing celebrity dirty laundry has become more than what it seems.

Kristine's Review:

Reviewed: July 2015.

I wanted something a little dirty, a tad smutty, something that still had a storyline that would draw me in, and while I enjoyed Filthy Dirty Laundry, Sidney intrigued me from the first page, I never quite felt fully invested in the story.

Sidney Stone knows what it's like to grow up in the public eye, her mother a centrefold and her father a one time television star, she knows exactly what it's like to be tabloid fodder, the fall from grace was tough and the mean girls in high school like Kendall made sure to let her know that she wasn't nor would she ever be one of the popular girls, so the decision to go into journalism particularly within the rag trade for gossip magazine Filthy Dirty Laundry (FDL) only served to show Sidney's  perseverance for doing what she loves, which is write and report on the world around her.

When Philip LaFleur's family takes over FDL, Sidney's hopes for a promotion flitter away, after a run in with her new boss Sidney is left confused by her reaction to him, one she's not prepared for, can Sidney possibly work for the object of her attraction, what is it that Philip wants from her, is he honestly attracted to her or is all of his sexy and sinful words just a game?

FDL was a short, sexy read for me, but I was never quite sold on the story, I'm intrigued by Philip and what his plans for Sidney are, likewise Sidney's best friend Johnson who seems to be biding his time, I wanted to love this book, but it just didn't quite hit the mark for me, I'm interested to see what happens next, but I never felt that all consuming desperation to uncover every little nuance, to find out what Philip is hiding, to see Sidney decide what she wants out of their new connection.
