Prior to starting The Fifteenth Minute I had only read the authors co-written book Him, so I wasn't particularly familiar with Sarina Bowen's work, I have to say, seeing as I devoured The Fifteenth Minute and have already started back at The Year We Fell Down, I don't think I'll be a stranger to the author again.
When Lianne starts university life is supposed to get better, more normal, college friends, parties, blending in with the crowd... being the teen superstar actress for the Princess Vindi series has meant that Lianne has always stood out, to be fangirled on college campus would of been expected but to be shunned for being the heroine of a multi million dollar paranormal franchise was certainly not what she was prepared for.
Despite Lianne's fame and fortune she's not exempt from college crushes on the hot boys, Daniel 'DJ' Trevi is sexy in ways Lianne should be used to after growing up on film sets, and yet he leaves her with butterflies in her tummy and nervous in ways she didn't expect. Lianne has been hoping for another opportunity to speak with DJ, so when the opportunity presents itself she refuses to let it go to waste.
On paper things look perfect, Lianne likes DJ, he seems to be sending all the right signals, but Lianne is terrified of putting herself out there after years of abandonment issues and until recently people she could truly count as friends, and Daniel is hiding something, his life is falling apart and he's busy just trying to hold it all together, the timing couldn't be worse, but he's never met a girl like Lianne, and he can't quite believe his luck that the Lianne Challice is even looking his way.
The Fifteenth Minute is hilarious, lots of great moments that leave you giggling, there's steamy swooniness and a bucket load of moments that meant that I couldn't wipe the smile off my face, this isn't just a college romance, this is a story about finding somewhere to just be when you've always felt like an outcast, it's about having what you thought was the perfect life until you're thrown a curve ball that's like a nightmare you wish you could wake up from, it's about finding someone who makes it easier to be yourself, someone who embraces you for all your quirks, and celebrates all of those things that you're self conscious of. Every word of this story made me thirty for more, it made me desperate for the rest of the characters in the Ivy Years series, I want to learn all their quirks and find out who there were before The Fifteenth Minute, there's times when I pick up a stand alone book in a series and I may like it or even love it, but I don't always have the desperate need to read the rest of the series like I did here, Ms Bowen definitely has herself a new fan with this fun, feisty, heartfelt, sexy series about an elite college hockey team and their friends.
